“Ostriches in Motion” – performance by Kotaro Fukui
Kotaro Fukui’s improvisational performances are inextricable linked to the concepts of Zen philosophy. When the artist stands on the paper and randomly drops the first gobs of ink, the form to come and where the lines will go are unknown. Before the action starts, we can only hear the heavy inhalation and exhalation of his breath along with the rhythm of the music; then we find the artist transform into an ostrich, darting about like a bird, his movement drawing the lines that form the painting. It takes not more than half hour, and audiences invariably enjoy his stunning performance. On Saturday, March 6 at 4pm, curator Luchia Meihua Lee will lead a tour of the exhibition followed by an additional performance.
Time: 11am and 4pm
Access: RSVP required to rsvp@chelseaartmuseum.org, Subject : Armory VIP Artist Performance
