MTA Arts for Transit - Robert Kushner

Download a free podcast to learn more about 4 Seasons Seasoned, Robert Kushner's glass mosaic artwork located on the mezzanine walls of 77th Street station. The artist, a key figure of the Pattern and Decoration movement, continues to feature vegetal motifs in his works, often along with geometric patterns and architectural shapes. In this artwork he creates bouquets of flowers - from every season - that reflects such influences as Dutch flower paintings and Japanese screens.

Harlem Armory Day

Visit Harlem during Armory Arts Week and enjoy a public art tour of stain glass windows at the famed Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, followed by lunch and portfolio reviews for artists wishing to pursue works in lighting, sculpture and design in open, public spaces around the City including Harlem. Open to artists around the City of New York. Meet individually with a curator, administrator or critic for a 20-minute session. Get feedback on your images, artist statement, project concepts and web site. Panelists include: Leanne Stella, Executive Director, Art Flux; Emily Colasaco, Manager, Urban Art Program, NYC Department of Transportation, Jennifer Lantzas, Public Art Coordinator, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation; Dianne Smith, Public Artist; Edwin Ramoran, Independent Curator; Bentley Meeker, Lighting Designer, Bentley Meeker Lighting & Staging, Inc.; Savona Bailey-McClain, Executive Director, The West Harlem Art Fund.

Harlem Biennale “Music in the Air”

Join us for an evening with cultural historian, collector and Harlem resident John T. Reddick. His walking tour showcases the influences and collaborations between Black and Jewish performers, composers and musicians who once resided in Harlem and honed their performing skills at neighborhood venues beginning in the Ragtime era of the 1890’s and through the 1920’s evolution of blues, jazz and American musical theater. The tour ends at an exhibition of John’s rare collection of music sheets illustrating that era.

Participants meet at the Studio Museum in Harlem to view the current exhibition, tour the historic Harlem neighborhood, and arrive at Restaurant Settepani to view the exhibition, share conversation and dinner with Mr. Reddick.
